Dr John Coyne

Dr John Coyne is the Head of the Northern Australia Strategic Policy Centre and Head of Strategic Policing and Law Enforcement at ASPI. He previously led ASPI’s Border Security Program and established the Northern Australia Strategic Policy Centre.


An award-winning author, John has published extensively on policing, national security, northern Australia, critical minerals and organized crime. His field research at ASPI spans topics such as critical minerals, Mexican organized crime, biosecurity, regional coastguards, and ASEAN economic integration.


He is the convenor of the annual Darwin Dialogue, an exclusive 1.5 track dialogue focussed on critical minerals.


With over 25 years in intelligence and national security, John has held roles at tactical, operational, and strategic levels, as well as a Winston Churchill Fellow and a Vincent Fairfax Fellow.
